Meet the ‘Wherever You Are’ girl

Here at Love for 10969, we all have our answers to the question “How did One Ok Rock change your life?” Even for me, it’s the most interesting question from the set and one can easily (or not) answer this with more than 200 words.

Our feature story for today came around when I saw a reblogged entry on tumblr. It’s about Wherever You Are being someone’s karaoke song and how it took away this person’s fright of singing in front of people. Most of us probably don’t understand the words to their songs in Japanese (all thanks to Google Translate) but with all those feelings conveyed through the song, we’re all under that OOR spell.

And without further ado, here’s Julianne’s story for you!

When was the first time you heard ONE OK ROCK and what song was it?

My first experience with One Ok Rock was with the Rurouni Kenshin trailer back in 2011. I remember being at work on a Saturday and having the freedom to browse the internet. I stumbled across the trailer and “The Beginning” as a result and instantly needed more to listen to.

What is your favorite song and why?

That is such a challenging question as I have so many favourites. “The Beginning” is still my most played song on iTunes however I think I’d have to go with “Wherever You Are“. That’s become my go-to karaoke song when I’m out with friends. It’s beautiful to listen to and when OOR performs it live I’m often moved close to tears. It’s also now the song I’m known by to my friends and that makes it really special. I like having that perceived connection. When we head our for karaoke I often have friends saying I’m the “Wherever You Are” girl.

Collecting any OOR Memorabilia? Which ones do you have? If you haven’t started your collection, which ones do you plan to purchase first?

I’d love to collect more of their actual cds but haven’t had the funds to go about doing so. As of right now I don’t have any real sort of collection. More clothing is also something I really want so I can showcase my passion daily.

Who is your favorite ONE OK ROCK member and why?

Another challenging question but I think I’d have to go with Taka. I find him so appealing as an individual and so heartfelt in his love for his fans. He had a rougher time in his youth but has persevered to become such a great young man. His birthday is also in April, as is my own, and I always feel a connection to other April people for some reason. He’s so dedicated for his performances, as is everyone in the band. I really feel like they are all so grateful for the opportunities they have and love their fans and that’s so amazing.

Can you say ONE OK ROCK has changed your life? How?Have you watched them in their live performances before?

Prior to finding OOR I never had a ‘favourite’ band or music artist. I loved music but I could never find a band that spoke to me as a complete package. OOR has given me something to be musically passionate about. I have seen them live but only once due to my moving across the world but really want to see more. I’m just waiting for the next opportunity.

Where and when?

I saw OOR live in Toronto back in May 2014.

What were your first expectations before the live and how did your ticket story go if you have one?

I had to work the day the tickets went on sale but thankfully my dad got the tickets for me and I’m so grateful! My expectations were pretty high as I had watched lots of live performances on youtube prior to the concert to get myself pumped.

Were these expectations met in the live?

They were exceeded. It’s one of the best experiences of my life and it’s my goal to see them live again.

Did you have your close ONE OK ROCK encounter and how did it go?

I haven’t. I’m hoping for it one day!

Will you watch them live again and if yes, where do you want to watch them again?

I want desperately to see them again. They were in Toronto in April but I’m currently residing in South Korea so I missed them. I keep my eyes peeled for things near me!

Any message for ONE OK ROCK if by chance they stumble upon this universe we call Love for 10969?

Thank you for your music. It’s special and resonates so strongly with your fanbase. We can really tell that your hearts are put into your music and your passion is present in every note that is played. Your dedication to your craft is so appreciated but us fans and I will continue to support as best as I can. Thank you for creating music that I can connect so strongly to, music that speaks to me.

I hope you were able to catch OOR Live last month at the KBS Arena, Julianne!
